A WellSpan Health ID badge is needed to gain access to certain areas, must be displayed at all times and returned at the end of your rotation. Instructions on how to obtain a WellSpan Health ID badge will be included in a confirmation letter.
Initial Orientation Session
WellSpan York Hospital Students must report to the Office of Medical Education at 10 a.m. on the first day of your rotation for a REQUIRED initial orientation. Directions will be included in a confirmation letter (email). WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital students will receive directions on where and when to report for orientation.
Free parking is available in several locations. Further instructions on where you are allowed to park will be given to you at your initial orientation with Medical Education at WellSpan York Hospital, or with Family Medicine at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital.
Housing - South Hall Dormitory - WellSpan York Hospital
If you need a room, please specify what type of room on your Rotation Request Form: Housing Needed (living on campus) or Call Room Needed (living off campus). Housing is a request, not a guarantee. If housing is unavailable and the requested rotation takes call, student will have access to the gender specific on-call/post-call room only.
- Each room has two beds, chairs, desks and bureaus. You will have a roommate for a portion of or your entire rotation.
- Gender specific call rooms have four beds, chairs and desks.
- The dormitory has a lounge area on the first floor with a television, sofas, etc.
- A new exercise and weight training area (shared with hospital medical staff) has recently been added
- A meditation room has recently been added
- There are three rooms with PCs and printers.
- There is a kitchen area (microwave, refrigerator, no stove).
- Laundry facilities are available in the dormitory on the second and third floors.
- The lavatory is a dormitory-type with several toilets and showers in a common area.
Linens: Clean linens will be provided on an exchange basis. Towels and washcloths are provided in the lavatory.
Housekeeping: The bathrooms are cleaned daily if it is possible for the housekeeper to do this without moving personal items.
Trash/Recycling: Trash cans are emptied daily. They are located in each room and in the lounge areas. The lounge area has an aluminum can recycle bin.
Housing Sign-in: Room keys, including on-call/post-call keys, will be available the night before orientation and may be picked up at the Security Operations Center. Security Operation is accessible 24 hours a day. South Hall dormitory keys must be returned at the end of your rotation.
Pagers are issued by the Medical Education Office. New batteries may be obtained from the Medical Education Office or the Security Operations Center. Pagers must be returned at the completion of the rotation. Students are financially responsible for pagers issued to them. The replacement charge for lost beepers is $125.
All rotators at WellSpan Health locations must receive a current influenza vaccination if the rotation includes any portion of the dates of October 1 to March 31. Verification must be received by Medical Education or your rotation Coordinator prior to arrival on campus. Medical exemption and religious exemption requests are reviewed. Please plan accordingly.
While on rotation, WellSpan has a variety of venues to choose from. No free food is offered.

A medical librarian is available Monday through Friday during usual business hours.
There are PCs located in South Hall Dormitory, Hoover Medical Library, Reference Room and other locations throughout WellSpan York Hospital. WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital and WellSpan York Hospital have free public WiFi access.
Recreation/Health Club/Exercise Facilities - WellSpan York Hospital
An excercise and weight training area is available in the South Hall Dormitory facility. Through the generosity of Dr. Steven Pandelidis (WellSpan Surgical Oncology), two daily passes for use of the exercise facilities at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) are available. This facility is approximately 2 miles from the hospital campus. A list of local health clubs and gyms offering discounts is available in the ERA (Employee Recreation) Office.
